Since CSSEA first reported on BC’s Pay Transparency Act in October 2023, the government has launched a new, online reporting tool to help employers prepare their required pay transparency reports.
Reporting deadlines will apply in stages based on an organization’s number of employees; employers will be required to post reports about their gender pay gaps by the following dates:
The pay transparency reporting tool allows employers to upload unidentifiable data on employees’ gender and pay, which will generate an automated report.
Employers can now also review the province’s first pay transparency Annual Report, which uses data from Statistics Canada, as well as pay transparency reports posted by public sector employers and the six largest Crown corporations (ICBC, BC Hydro, WorkSafeBC, BC Housing, BC Lottery Corporation and BC Transit). Notably, women in BC earned 17% less than men last year based on median hourly wages, and those gaps were even greater for racialized, Indigenous and newcomer women. The Annual Report can be found here.
